The BJP had won just two seats out of 42 in the last Lok Sabha elections in the state. The party is now laying special emphasis to improve the performance in Odisha and West Bengal ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a rally at the Midnapore Collegiate grounds in West Bengal. The rally would be Prime Minister's first visit to the state this year to underscore his message to the farmers after Centre's decision to increase the minimum support price for crops.

The BJP had won just two seats out of 42 in the state, the last Lok Sabha elections. The party is now laying special emphasis to improve the performance in Odisha and West Bengal ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh also said, "The prime minister's rally in Midnapore proves that Bengal is one of their top priority states in the Lok Sabha poll."

According to sources, Midnapore was chosen as a venue as the party wants to put special emphasis on the tribal Jangalmahal area where the party won sizeable seats in the last panchayat polls. West Midnapore district is part of the Jangalmahal.

The BJP has already made steady inroads in various districts of west Bengal after the panchayat elections and by-polls and managed to emerge as the main opposition party in the state. 

PM Modi's visit comes just over a fortnight BJP chief Amit Shah visited the state. Reports had also suggested that he had set a non-negotiable target of winning at least 22 of Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats next year.

After opening at Rs 34.75 crore, the film has been consistently minting money. Worldwide, the film has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark. Even as newer releases are challenging this Hirani film, it is chugging along pretty nicely.

The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta had given a positive review to the film. She wrote, “Rajkumar Hirani does the only thing he can. By making Sanjay Dutt, Sanju. By choosing to show us a child-man, full of insecurities and flaws. By making the film much more about an errant son and a loving, forgiving father, than a king-size, get-outta-my-way superstar ‘jo har fikr ko dhuein mein udaata chaala gaya’. And yes, by giving that errant son a chance of redemption, because it wouldn’t be a Rajkumar Hirani film otherwise.”

FIFA World Cup 2018: Croatia fans eclipse low-key French in Moscow final build-up

Croatia eliminated hosts Russia in the quarter-finals and England in the semis, delighting their home country of 4.2 million people.

Scores of Croatian fans took to the streets of Moscow on Sunday ahead of their country’s first ever World Cup final appearance, cheering and waving flags in anticipation of the historic match against France.

With four hours to go until kickoff at 1800 local time (1500 GMT) Croatian fans in the centre of Moscow appeared to out-number their more low-key French counterparts.

That may be due in part to the fact that Croatians are so thrilled that their team has made it this far.

Croatia eliminated hosts Russia in the quarter-finals and England in the semis, delighting their home country of 4.2 million people.

“Whether we win today or lose, Croatia is going to be on fire,” said Croatian fan Kristjan Alapic, from the city of Velika Gorica, as he stood outside Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre.

“Tomorrow don’t expect anybody to show up for work. This brings the whole population together.”

When Croatia take on France at Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium later on Sunday, the team hopes to settle an old score with the French dating back to the 1998 World Cup.

That year, Croatia’s World Cup dreams were ended when France beat them 2-1 in the semi-finals before going on to win the tournament.

“It is unbelievable to be in the final for such a small country such as Croatia,” said 47-year-old Croatian fan Denis Papac near Red Square. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

After Croatia eliminated Russia, Croatian tour operators struggled to secure enough airplane space to get all the country’s fans to Russia for the World Cup.

“There weren’t that many Croatians earlier in the tournament,” said 30-year-old Miro Susa from Osijek, who was on a square adjacent to the Kremlin. “This is a unique opportunity. This will maybe never happen again.”

While Croatian fans were gearing up for the match, Russian police stepped up security, closing off traffic in central Moscow in preparation for the visits of high-ranking officials tied in to the World Cup.

Ahead of the final Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks on Sunday with Hungarian President Viktor Orban and Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and was still expecting French President Emmanuel Macron.

At Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium, hundreds of security staff in civilian clothes were inspecting the premises.

French fans were more reserved ahead of the final and seemed to be fewer in number than their Croatian counterparts.

“I’ve been seeing a lot of Croatians. That has really hit me,” said 32-year-old French fan Benjamin Haddad. “The atmosphere is very Croatian right now.”

Haddad could not explain why French fans were less visible on the streets of Moscow ahead of the match but suggested the enthusiasm of the Croatians could be tied to their team’s unforeseen success.

“It’s the first final in Croatia’s history,” he said. “It’s a surprise for them to be here. It’s an even more historical moment for them.”
